# Mentions

> Where mentions come from, how they are classified, and what you can do with each one

## Projects and keywords

A project is one product you listen for. Each project has keywords: the product name, aliases, competitors. Manage them on the project's **Keywords** tab.

- New brand keywords search X and Reddit every hour, competitors every 6 hours, and the slower sources less often. Change each source's pace per keyword, see [how often each source is searched](/docs/guides/usage#how-often-each-source-is-searched).
- **Scan now** next to a keyword searches every source immediately and tells you how many mentions it found and how many were new.
- Removing a keyword deletes its mentions.

> **Tip:** Each keyword costs recurring searches of every source it uses. Track the names people actually use, not every spelling. See [Usage and cost](/docs/guides/usage).

## Sources

| Source | What is searched |
| --- | --- |
| X | Posts |
| Reddit | Posts from the last week, newest first |
| LinkedIn | Posts |
| YouTube | Videos |
| Web | Web search results |
| Hacker News | Stories and comments, newest first |

Search on these sources matches loosely, so Overhear keeps only the posts whose title, text or link actually contains the keyword. A post is stored once per keyword, so scanning again never creates duplicates.

## Ignored authors

**Ignored authors** on the **Settings** tab lists your own accounts and site: X handles, Reddit users, channel or page names, web domains, separated by commas. Their posts are skipped in every scan of the project. Saving the list also removes their past mentions.

## Types

Claude gives each new mention one type:

| Type | Means |
| --- | --- |
| Buying intent | Looking for a tool like yours, asking for recommendations, or ready to buy |
| Complaint | Frustration or criticism |
| Bug report | A concrete defect or error report |
| Question | Asks how to do something |
| Praise | Recommends or compliments your product |
| Misinformation | States something false or misleading, like wrong pricing or features |
| Competitor | A rival vendor's own page or post comparing itself to you or positioning as an alternative; never buying intent |
| Other | News, tutorials and everything else |

Misinformation is judged against the **Facts** on the **Settings** tab: pricing, plans, platforms and what your product does not do. **Fill from site** reads them off your homepage and shows them next to yours, line by line: shared, reworded, yours only, or new from the site. Pick **Add new lines**, **Replace with site** or **Keep mine**; nothing is saved until you save. Opinions and experiences are never misinformation, and posts about a competitor aren't checked against your facts. Facts are used only after you confirm them, with **Looks right, enable checks** above the feed or **Confirm facts and enable checks** on the card, and a misinformation mention shows the claim and the fact it contradicts.

Claude also records the sentiment toward your product. A negative sentiment shows on a mention unless its type already says so (complaints and bug reports).

### Your own categories

Under **Categories** on the **Settings** tab, add up to 10 categories of your own, each with a name and a description of what belongs in it, for example **Pricing**: "talks about what it costs". Claude reads the description and prefers your category over the built-in ones when a new mention fits.

Removing a category sends its mentions back to be sorted again on the next scan.

> **Note:** Classification needs a Claude API key on the server. Without one, mentions are still found but have no type. Mentions that couldn't be classified are retried on the next scan.

## Fact check

Once your facts are confirmed, Overhear checks what other sites say about you every week. For each brand keyword that is not a competitor it searches the web for "*keyword* vs", "*keyword* alternatives" and "*keyword* pricing", skips your own site and the sites other sources cover (Reddit, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Hacker News), and reads up to 10 pages a week. Claude checks what each page says about your pricing, plans, features and platforms against your facts.

A page that contradicts them becomes one misinformation mention with the quote and what it gets wrong. If the page is fixed later, its status changes and the mention is hidden, unless you already reviewed it. Marking the mention **Not related** lists the page as dismissed by your team; it stays that way. A page already checked is fetched again after 4 weeks, or on the next check after you change your facts; if it has not changed since, Claude skips it.

The **Fact check** tab, also linked under the **Misinformation** tile and on the **Facts** card, lists every page with its status: no contradictions found, outdated, contradicts your facts, or dismissed by your team. **Check now** runs the check right away at the same price. On pages that contradict your facts, are outdated or were dismissed, **Recheck** reads the page again now, for 2 credits, and judges it even if it has not changed: use it once a site has fixed what it said.

Search also finds pages that use your name for something else, or never mention you (another tool's pricing page, say). Claude marks those **Not about you**, and they are never read again. **Ignore** does the same for any other page you don't want tracked, and **Restore** undoes it. Both are folded away below the list and don't count toward your numbers. Ignoring is better than deleting would be: the next search would find a deleted page again and charge for reading it.

On a page's misinformation mention, **Draft correction request** writes a short email to the site's owner quoting what the page says and the fact it gets wrong. It costs 15 credits, like a reply draft. Send it yourself, or use the site's own edit form for listings, then **Mark request sent**.

Each week costs 3 credits per brand keyword for the searches, plus 2 credits for each page read. Searches count toward the credits you use per day; page reads show up once they happen.

## Urgency

Claude also judges how soon you should respond:

- **High**: an outage or bug many people hit, a false claim spreading, an angry customer or ready buyer with a large audience, or a thread where a reply now wins or saves a customer.
- **Medium**: worth a reply today, like a question, a buyer asking for options, or a complaint.
- **Low**: no action needed.

High-urgency mentions show an **Urgent** badge and a red edge. Use **Urgent only** to see just those.

## Competitor moments

When complaints and bug reports about a competitor you track jump (at least 5 in 6 hours and three times the usual, measured against the last 14 days), Overhear opens a moment: an outage, price change, shutdown, acquisition, bad release or other. The first row of the feed and of the **Leads** list names it, shows how many posts came in against the usual, a 7-day chart of complaints per 6 hours, the top post and the leads it produced. Its posts carry a **Moment** chip, and the people complaining are scored against your buyer profile, so those who fit show up on the **Leads** tab, first while it lasts. **Scan hourly until it's over** speeds up the competitor's searches until it ends, then puts your own pace back. A competitor needs 7 days of tracking before it can have one. Moments end after two quiet 6-hour windows; a new burst within a day reopens the same one.

## Unrelated mentions

A keyword can mean more than your product: another company, an account or a word with the same name. Claude compares each post with your project's description and hides the ones about something else.

The feed shows how many are hidden, for example **6 unrelated hidden**. Click it to see them, and **back to related** to return.

Claude got it wrong? Click **Not related** on a mention to hide it, or **Related** on a hidden one to bring it back. Your choice always wins over Claude's.

> **Tip:** A clear description makes this work better. Edit it under **Description** on the **Settings** tab. New mentions are judged against the new text.

## Actions

| Action | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Save** | Adds the mention to **Testimonials**. Click **Saved** to take it out. |
| **Not related** | Hides the mention from the feed. |
| **Mute author** | Adds the author to **Ignored authors** and removes all their mentions in this project. |

## Testimonials

The **Testimonials** tab collects the mentions you saved, most recently saved first, as quotes with the author, source and a link to the original. **Remove** takes one out again. To show them on your own site, see [Testimonials on your site](/docs/guides/testimonials).

## Deleting a project

At the bottom of the **Settings** tab, **Delete project** deletes the project, its keywords, every mention and all testimonials. You confirm in a dialog first. This can't be undone.
