> What Overhear is and how scanning, classification and the feed fit together

## What is Overhear?

The most honest feedback about your product is never sent to you. It's said to someone else: in a Reddit thread, a reply on X, a "has anyone tried…?" post.

Overhear listens in those places and tells you what was said, who needs an answer, and who's ready to buy. Hear what they say when you're not in the room.

## How it works

1. **Track keywords**
A project is one product you listen for. Give it keywords: the product name, aliases, competitors. Start from your domain and Overhear suggests them for you.

2. **Scan**
Every keyword is searched on X, Reddit, LinkedIn, YouTube, Hacker News and the web: your brand every hour, competitors and lead phrases every 6 hours, the slower sources daily. Only posts that actually contain the keyword are kept, and posts by your own accounts are skipped.

3. **Classify**
Claude reads each new mention and gives it a type (like **Buying intent** or **Complaint**), a sentiment and an urgency. It also decides whether the post is about your product or uses the same word for something else.

4. **Act**
Work through the feed on **Mentions**. Reply to what's urgent, save praise as a testimonial, and hide what's unrelated. Get an email or a webhook for the mentions that need you.

## Mention types

**Buying intent**
Someone looking for a tool like yours, asking for recommendations, or ready to buy.

**Complaint and bug report**
Frustration, criticism, or a concrete defect someone ran into.

**Question and praise**
Someone asking how to do something, or recommending you.

**Misinformation**
Something false about your product, like wrong pricing or claims that it shut down.

You can add up to 10 categories of your own per project. See [Mentions](/docs/guides/mentions).
